What is DraftDrop?
DraftDrop is a macOS menu-bar app for capturing notes from any app and saving them as Markdown. It is designed to reduce friction between quick capture and your long-term notes system.
Is this macOS only?
Yes. Current builds target macOS 13 and newer.
Is it only for Obsidian?
No. DraftDrop writes plain .md files and works with any Markdown folder structure.
Obsidian is simply the most common setup.
Where does DraftDrop save files?
It saves into the folder you configure in settings. Many people point it at an Obsidian vault, but you can use any destination that fits your Markdown workflow.

What does Free include?
Free includes all Pro features with a 30-capture total cap. Paid plans remove the cap so you can use DraftDrop as a daily workflow, not just a test drive.
How is Pro priced?
Pro is $9.99 per month or $89 per year. A $149 lifetime option is also available.

Can I run AI locally?
Yes. You can run local models directly in the app. You can also connect provider keys if you prefer remote models for heavier inference.
Can I customize generation output?
Yes. You can define custom prompts for title, tags, folder selection, and summary generation so the output matches your own note structure.
What if I do not want AI at all?
You can still use DraftDrop as a fast Markdown capture tool. AI improves metadata and formatting, but the core capture flow does not depend on it.

If your vault structure changed recently, rebuild context and review your prompts. Most quality issues come from outdated context or prompts that became too broad over time.
How do updates work?
DraftDrop uses signed Sparkle updates. You can check for updates in settings, and shipped changes are published on the Release Notes page.
